How to know your Motorcycle Helmet size?

When purchasing a helmet, there is some need for research by the buyer. This is because there are so many options nowadays. One key factor when purchasing the right helmet is the size that is the proper helmet fit. There is a number of different sizes that can vary from US-based to UK-based. First, you should be able to measure the size of your head in order to find the right-sized helmet.

How to measure the right size for a helmet?

Maximum people have the common head shape. There is a lot of head shape you may know such as round head shape, oval shape or intermediate oval, big head shape. In order to find the right of the helmet, the motorbike user needs to use cloth tape to measure the head. This head measurement instruction will be helpful for you-

  • Measure Your Head: Use a flexible cloth tape measure to determine the widest part of your head. The widest part of a person’s head is above their eyes and ears, usually 2.5 cm. We recommend measuring at a few points above and below the line to determine the greatest measurement. If you want to know what the chart recommends, we suggest testing the fit of a helmet one size smaller and larger. Helmets cannot provide protection if they are too uncomfortable to wear.
  • Try Wearing The Helmet: It’s important that helmets fit snug, but not tight. Pull the chinstraps out of the helmet and make sure they don’t go up inside the helmet. A proper-fitting helmet will feel snug with a lot of pressure around the sides and top of your head. The liner on most modern helmets is designed to be a little snug at the beginning but will break in after hours of riding. If you do not know how a helmet should fit, ask for assistance from a salesperson or a more experienced rider. The helmet is not allowed to move around on your head without pulling on your skin. A helmet that is loose-fitting can be dangerous, noisy, and tiring. The mistake of buying a helmet that’s too large is made by most people.

**When trying on a helmet, make sure that the chin strap is fastened securely beneath your chin and then test to see if the helmet can’t be removed from your head.

  • Make The Right Decision: If you want to exchange your helmet for a different one, it’s best to wear it inside the store for a few minutes. Not every brand of a helmet is compatible with all head sizes and average head size. If you find that you can’t get a snug fit in our helmets, we suggest you try another brand. Helmets cannot provide protection if they are never worn.

Are all measurements the same?

Are all measurements the same? This is a question that comes up quite often and, unfortunately, not a lot of people have tried to find the answer. When looking for a helmet, you will be presented with a variety of measurements: the width of the helmet, the height of the helmet, the circumference of the helmet, the weight of the helmet, and the thickness of the helmet.

Whether or not you wear a motorcycle helmet is often a contentious issue, with many riders and manufacturers disagreeing on how to measure a helmet. In the United States, the DOT (Department of Transportation) sets standards for all motorcycle helmets, but in the European Union, the ECE (European Committee for Standardization) sets standards for helmets sold in Europe.

What is the smallest helmet size?

The smallest head size termed as X-Small would measure the head within 20.87 inches to 21.26 inches or 53-54 cm. The 19-1/8 – 19-½ inch measurement of the head is considered to be the small-sized head which will require the 21-5/8″ – 22″ helmet size. The largest is when the head has a measurement of 27 inches to 27.5 inches or 69-70 cm. it requires the 5X-Large sized helmet.

Does a helmet need a right fit?

Fitting the helmet for comfort is very important. Make sure you test the fit before purchasing. If the helmet feels too tight, you might start aching and feel really uncomfortable. There is need for a perfect fit, not a tight feel. The helmet should move around freely without any discomfort feeling by the user. However, it should not be too much loose to fall open.

How to fit a helmet?

First, open the chin straps, then hold the helmet with both hands and raise it above your head. Slide the helmet starting from your forehead. Check if the sliding is too quick. It may mean that the helmet is too loose. If the sliding is not too tight, then you have the right helmet. There is padding inside which should feel snugging your cheeks and head. Once the helmet wearing is complete, move your head and check if the helmet slides. If there is sliding, it again means that your helmet is loose. There should be no movement, but again not too tight as well. To remove the helmet, grab sideways and pull forward but upwards.

Conclusion

Helmet size is important for a rider to travel with the best possible comfort. This means that you should measure your head and determine from the chart which size is best for you. Once you find out the right size, it’s time to check an actual helmet to see if it fits well. If you don’t feel comfortable, it may lead to headaches which can become disturbing enough to cause collisions or even accidents. The best fit will give you a feeling as if there’s no helmet on your head when you are riding.
